General Podiatry
General podiatry – skin and nail care
General podiatry involves the assessment and treatment of skin and nail conditions of the feet.
Skin Care
Corns and calluses (hyperkeratosis) are among the most common foot conditions we treat. Treatment involves gently debriding (removing) some of the hard skin of the callus and removing the centre of corn.
At Sydney Foot Clinic, we educate the patients and give recommendations to prevent the formation of future calluses and corns. Additionally, redistributing the pressure away from the painful area with soft padding, strapping or the prescription of orthotics may also be performed.
Some common skin conditions include;
- Callus
- Corns
- Plantar warts
- Tinea (athletes foot)
- Cracked heels
Nail Care
Toenail problems can affect people of all ages but tend to be more common with advancing ages. Genetics, trauma and ill-fitting shoes are the common causes of nail problems. Treatment usually involves treating the diseased or painful nail and educating the patient for prevention of further problems. At Sydney Foot Clinic some common nail problems we treat are;
- Ingrown toe nails
- Fungal nails
- Thickened nails
- Curved (involuted) nails
- Broken nails
